About
The strategy of casting technology department aims at upgrading technical and theoretical capabilities of the researchers in the field of casting technology in order to transfer this innovative technology to the Egyptian industries. The other objective is to upgrading the technical capabilities of the foundrymen in the industry through applying training courses. These training courses include ferrous and non-ferrous casting alloys to cover all sectors in Egypt and middle-east as well. One of the main targets of the foundry pilot plant at CMRDI is to produce special spare parts that cannot be easily produced locally in Egypt or to limit the imported spare parts from abroad. CMRDI is dealing now with other strategically alloys, such as Ni-base super alloys, Mg-alloys, Ti-alloys, etc.
Research areas
The casting technology department performed extensive research works in various areas and applications such as;
Programs
Casting technology and development of cast iron alloys such as gray cast iron, white cast iron, ductile cast iron, ADI and alloyed cast iron for different applications such as automotive, agriculture, machinery parts, and gears.
Casting technology and development of nonferrous based alloys such as aluminum alloys, Copper alloys, Magnesium alloys, Zinc alloys, Titanium alloys, Cobalt alloys, Ni alloys and high entropy alloys and shape memory alloys for different applications such as automotive, airplanes, permanent and biodegradable implants, pumps, valves, sacrificial anodes, magnetic materials, civil and military applications
Casting technology and development of stainless steel.
Casting technology and development of metal matrix micro- and nano- composites and their applications.
Casting technology and development of functionally graded metallic alloys as well as bimetallic alloys and their applications.
Liquid metal treatments such as degassing, chemical and dynamic methods such as ultrasonic and mechanical vibration for modification and grain refinement of cast structure.
Different casting technology such as sand casting, high pressure die casting, permanent mold casting, semisolid casting and centrifugal casting, Semisolid casting and investment casting technology.
Heat treatments of ferrous and nonferrous alloys.
Casting design (feeding and gating system)
Analysis of casting defects and their remedies.
