The Plastic Deformation Department (PDD) is a part of the Metals Technology institute in the Central Metallurgical R&D Institute (CMRDI). This department works on a range of metal forming processes, such as rolling, forging, sheet metal forming, warm forming, hot-stamping, and cold-die quenching, physical simulation using Gleeble 3500 machine emphasizing metallurgical and materials Engineering nationally, regionally, and internationally to better serve individuals, society, and the environment. The department introduces engineering solutions and develops applications in metal forming through industrial collaboration, drawing on knowledge and experience using available resources. The department activities restrict with the policy; “Plastic Deformation is not only dimensional accuracy but also enhanced mechanical properties”. This policy allows for processing value added products by controlling the processing parameters. The department is dealing mainly with alloys development through the alloy design in combination with thermo-mechanical processing. Furthermore, the department uses cold deformation technique as an effective tool for hardening different alloys.
